What is CAROL?
Gain the benefits of a 45-minute jog in just 8 minutes 40 seconds. With the CAROL Bike, you can experience results previously only seen in a research lab. The artificial intelligence system learns and adapts to your body, finding the right resistance and calibrating every ride to maximize your performance and results.
Studies show using CAROL for just 8 minutes and 40 seconds, three times a week for eight weeks can result in reduced risk of metabolic disease, increased heart and lung fitness/health, reduced blood pressure, reduced blood sugar, increased good cholesterol (HDL), and reduced triglycerides (fat found in your blood).
What to Expect?
Rides 1-3 – these are “ramp-up rides”, you will only have access to the main workout, and with sprints lasting just 10 seconds. This is important practice before exercising at maximum intensity.
Rides 4-6 – these are “calibration rides”, you will now have the choice between 10, 15 and 20 second sprints. CAROL’s algorithms will calculate the exact resistance you need to reach maximum intensity.
After ride 6 – you now have full access to the workouts and features of the bike. As multiple metrics are measured on each ride, CAROL will constantly re-calculate the resistance to reflect changes to your fitness.
There are 4 categories of workouts to choose from:
1. Reduced Exertion HIIT (REHIIT)
2. Fat Burn
3. Free and Custom Rides
4. Fitness Tests
REHIIT: the shortest, most effective workout. Each REHIIT workout follows the same format with varying sprint durations depending on selected intensity.
warm-up (20 seconds - 2 minutes)
sprint 1 (10 - 20 seconds)
recovery 1 (1 - 3 minutes)
sprint 2 (10 - 20 seconds)
cool-down (3 minutes)
Fat Burn: choose between 30, 45 and 60 x 8-second sprints with a 12-second recovery between each interval. These workouts start with a short warm-up and are followed by a 3 minute cool-down.
Free and Custom Rides: you get to choose the variable you wish to manipulate. Whether it's power, heart rate zone, or speed and intensity, these rides give you the freedom to workout your own way.
Alternatively, choose between 10 x 6-second sprints, 3 x 20-second sprints or 30 x 4-second sprints, with varying recovery intervals.
Fitness Tests: these workouts measure your functional threshold power, maximum aerobic power and VO2max to give you your fitness score.
Ramp test (12-20 minutes): after a 2 minute warm-up, the bike will gradually increase your target power until you reach your absolute limit
Functional Threshold Power (FTP) Test (20 minutes): set a resistance and target power that you can pedal for 20 minutes straight
2 x 8-minute FTP Test (26 minutes): same as above, except you ride at your power threshold for 8 minutes twice with a 10-minute recovery period in between
CAROL + Mobility
The CAROL session can be coupled with a 30 minute mobility session with one of our Kinesiologists. All you have to do is focus on the breath and allow us to do the stretching and mobility work for you! The goal is to downregulate your nervous system with slow and controlled breathing, leaving you in a calm state both physically and mentally. This particular combination of exercise and assisted stretching will leave you walking out happy, relaxed, and ready to take on the stressors of daily life.
